ALUMNO OBJETIVO: The Department of Economics and Business of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra offers The Graduate Programme in Economics and Management (GPEM). The Programme seeks candidates of the highest calibre - students with outstanding academic backgrounds and the intellectual curiosity and discipline needed to succeed in a very demanding environment. ... PROGRAMA: The Department of Economics and Business of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra offers The Graduate Programme in Economics and Management (GPEM). The Programme seeks candidates of the highest calibre - students with outstanding academic backgrounds and the intellectual curiosity and discipline needed to succeed in a very demanding environment. To these qualified students UPF offers an exceptional opportunity for advanced study and research. Currently the GPEM leads to a one-year Master of Science (either in Economics or Management), to a two-year Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) and to a PhD degree (Doctorate in Economics or Doctorate in Management). English is the official language of the Programme. The Master of Science (MSc) degrees are awarded on successful completion of the required courses. Those students awarded the MSc degree will have acquired an excellent grounding in their field and sufficient analytical skills to enter the PhD programme or to go into a technically demanding job. The Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) is a two-year programme. It has the first year in common with the MSc programme and a second year for specialization. The PhD programme is geared to develop students' research skills and independence of thought. In addition to the required courses, students admitted to the PhD programme are expected to participate actively in research workshops and the special courses organised by the Department. There are currently about 156 students in the GPEM, with approximately equal numbers studying for the Master programmes and the PhD programme. Students are drawn from many countries. The latest statistics show that 17.31% are from Spain, 60.26% from other European countries and 22.43% from outside Europe. The GPEM also accepts a small number of visiting students who are interested in spending one, two or three quarters at UPF to follow a few graduate courses. Applications for the status of visiting student is subject to the same procedure and requirements as those of all other graduate students. During their stay at UPF, they will be treated as regular MSc or PhD students. However, they will not be considered for financial aid. After the successful completion of their exams they will receive credits for the courses followed. The academic year comprises three teaching quarters of 10 weeks each. Each course lasts one quarter. All students are strongly advised to take the intensive three-week review courses in Mathematics and Statistics which will be taught during the month of September, before the official start of the graduate programme. |
