Fulfills Mathematics Requirement for A&S; Engineering, Physics, Business, Computer Science and Preprofessional Health Studies Requirement; Honors Credit Available for Eligible Students.
The main objectives of this first calculus course are two: first, to provide the student with a genuine understanding of the derivative and its applications beyond the purely symbolic level. Second to serve as an introduction to optimization and modeling, and to strengthen an understanding of the concepts and principles through a broad range of interesting applications to the real world.
This course is appropriate for students majoring in engineering or business.
Emphasis will be placed on using computers to solve numerical problems.
A mathematical package (MATLAB) will be used to solve problems related to the content of the class.
Students must enroll also in a lab section.
II. Course Outline:
1. Functions
Lines and linear functions
