Introduction to the historical development of artistic forms and styles through the ages, and to theoretical concepts for understanding art. Emphasis on painting and its relationship to sculpture, architecture and the performing arts. Supplementary visits to the Prado and Reina Sofía museums.

The main objective of the course is to learn to appreciate Art as itself.
To learn to look at a work of Art and to see it alone or in relation to other works
To help integrate your knowledge of the Western world and to see how Art is related to the period in which it was created.
Through the analysis and discussion of a number of masterpieces, the course will provide the students with a broad perspective on the discipline of Art History and will introduce them to the use of a set of critical artistic tools.
The course is specially focused in Western European and Spanish Art and will be taught by a combination of lectures with slides, power point presentations and visits to the main museums in Madrid.
